The Soviet SVT line of rifles were widely used on the Eastern Front of WW2 by Finnish, German, and Red Army soldiers.  It is one of the most historic battle rifles that one can own.  In this article, broken down into a text and photo section, Vic Thomas covers this line of rifles in the most complete manner I have encountered.   There is also an added photo section that details how to field strip the SVT40.
