This conversion provides
a solid lock up for any of the 88/98 ersatz bayonets. I believe
this to be a wartime alteration since there was no need to
produce such a crude conversion during the post war era, when
Europe was awash with serviceable surplus arms left over from
the war.

This view shows the
same conversion, sporting an 88/98 ersatz pattern bayonet.
Note the unusual addition to the muzzle?

.he strangest feature
on this conversion is the threaded section of metal, which
has been welded to the muzzle? It was added for a reason and
may have allowed for the fitting of some type of rifle grenade
cup.
