This conversion provides a solid lock up for any of the 88/98 ersatz bayonets. I believe this to be a wartime alteration since there was no need to produce such a crude conversion during the post war era, when Europe was awash with serviceable surplus arms left over from the war.

.he strangest feature on this conversion is the threaded section of metal, which has been welded to the muzzle? It was added for a reason and may have allowed for the fitting of some type of rifle grenade cup.
